D. Blog: Walking Small?

Our former county sheriff has collected a lot of local headlines recently. Seems he was convicted of several felonies committed while during his 14-years in office. I didn’t follow the case very closely, but he clearly had problems with handling evidence and gambling. He stashed evidence (weapons) from criminal cases in the cement foundation at a large construction site. He took large sums of cash from illegal video poker game operators around the county, then spent 162 days (when he was supposedly taking care of county business) in one year losing most of it at the casino on Cherokee property.

I think it was Joe Don Looney who starred in the movie “Walking Tall” several years ago. That moved was based on the story of another sheriff in another southern state, but he actually fought the criminal elements in his county. Perhaps our area citizens should propose another movie: Walking Small.
